Misconduct by Penelope Douglas || BOOK REVIEW

23605463

Former tennis player Easton Bradbury is trying to be the best teacher she can be, trying to reach her bored students and trying to forget her past. What brought her to this stage in her life isn’t important. She can’t let it be. But now one parent-teacher meeting may be her undoing…

Meeting Tyler Marek for the first time makes it easy for Easton to see why his son is having trouble in school. The man knows how to manage businesses and wealth, not a teenage boy. Or a young teacher, for that matter, though he tries to. And yet…there is something about him that draws Easton in—a hint of vulnerability, a flash of attraction, a spark that might burn.

Wanting him is taboo. Needing him is undeniable. And his long-awaited touch will weaken Easton’s resolve—and reveal what should stay hidden…

I really enjoyed Penelope Douglas's 'Falling Away' series- I read the whole thing. And one day I was just chilling in front of the TV and all of a sudden thought to myself, "I want to re-read 'Bully'". So I did, and then a little while passed, and I was like, "I want more!". But alas, there was no more- so I decided to pick up another of Penelope Douglas's books, and that turned out to be 'Misconduct'.
I think the best, short, description of this book would be that it is a New Adult Contemporary Romance told in dual perspectives about a 23 year old former tennis pro turned teacher (Easton) and a 34 year old construction company owner trying to become a senator (Tyler). Sound interesting yet? IT DID TO ME SO I READ IT AND IT WAS GREAT. And the plot-twist? Easton ends up being Tyler's 14 year old son's teacher.

I do have to say though that the sex-scenes were pretty graphic- just to give you a fair warning. And for me, sometimes awkward to read through. I didn't find it too annoying though- I actually end up skimming/ skipping the sexy time scenes in most books halfway through. I read a book for the plot, not really so much for the smut although sometimes it's nice let's be honest who read 'Fifty Shades of Grey' for the plot? I sure as hell didn't I wanted to see just how weird/ creepy/ bizarre that sex could get half the time I was like "ewww" but whatever I did it now I understand all the jokes and I feel cool yay. Overall, the plot was good, and I enjoyed the story.

What I liked:
  • The "thrilling" aspect to this book- throughout it I was constantly trying to figure out what happened to Easton in her past and how exactly it was all catching up to her. WHO'S THE CREEPER BREAKING IN? I MUST KNOW!!
  • Tyler and Easton's relationship was pretty functional, albeit the problem of keeping everything on the down low so as not to upset Tyler's son, Christian.
  • How everyone tried and cared to not upset/ disrupt Christian- everyone really wanted to do what was best for him.
  • Seeing Tyler trying to rebuild his relationship with his son.

What I didn't like:
  • The ending plot-twist- figuring out who kept harassing Easton and breaking into her apartment. I didn't like it. I felt it didn't make sense in relation to the story and characters, and was too quickly revealed and then forgotten. Maybe if we had more backstory on Easton it would have made more sense.

Ratings
4/5 stars
Did I like the ending?
Besides that plot-twist at the end, I did. Although I would have liked a longer epilogue, maybe set further in the future- but that probably just boils down to personal preference. :)
Would I read again?
Sure! I can see myself reading it again.
Would I recommend?
If you want something quick to read, and don't mind large age-gaps, go for it!

Talk to ya'll on the flip side,
Jasmine
